In September 2020 Jack Tighe ltd was awarded the contract to provide surface preparation and apply protective coatings to all structural steel on Limberhill Wood rail bridge located in North Yorkshire.
All Jack Tighe Ltd operatives received a site induction from Amco to ensure safe working practices and site minimum PPE requirements are complied with. Access to the works were via fully fixed encapsulated scaffolding supplied by the client.
The Specification Procedure was as follows: –

XM92/M20-148 Specification – Underside
Equipment utilised on site included a Compressor, Blast Pots, Diesel Bowsers, Spray Pumps, Clean Air Packs, Forklift Truck, Vacuum Recovery System, Extraction Equipment, Decontamination Unit, Generator, and lighting.
Toolbox Talks were carried out by the supervisor on site covering topics including Access/Egress, Site setup, Grit Blasting, Control of lead at work and the correct use of PPE.
Due to the significant lead content present in the existing paint system on site and the potential risk to operatives during the removal of the paint system, the Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 will apply.
The duration of the works was approximately 20 weeks with 8 men on site. Works were completed successfully and to specification to the value of approximately £365,000.
