The war in Ukraine has led to millions of Ukrainian people fleeing their families, homes, and belongings to find shelter and safety, with little or no food, clothing, or essential items. On Friday 25th March 2022 John Kelsey, from our workshop at Kirton Lindsey, and his friend David Flear set off on their long journey to Krakow in Poland, which is close to the border with Ukraine, to deliver essential items donated by you!

John and Dave set off from Kirton Lindsey at 14:15 and arrived in Poland at around 15:15 the following day.

Having safely arrived in Krakow, they were directed to a small town called Krzesowice where they met Maciej (Aid Centre Organiser in Poland) and an army of volunteers. The Aid centre has already welcomed and helped 120 Ukrainians, with more expected in the coming days and weeks.

Once unloaded, John and Dave then embarked on their return journey and arrived back in Scunthorpe on Monday 28th March at around 9am.

Contributions gratefully received towards John’s travel costs, accommodation and the tunnel crossings were received from:

Jayson Clayton (friend)

Humber Merchants

Attis insurance

Tanya and Nathan

Roll Roy

Any monies left over will be donated to a Ukraine charity. John would like to say a massive thank you, as without your generosity the trip would not have been made possible.

John left with a van full of essentials to hand over to Maciej in Poland. Donations received in terms of essential items were dropped off and collected in our reception at Kirton Lindsey by JTL employees, friends, family, and the public, following a Facebook appeal.

A large donation from The Forge in Scunthorpe was also received, again John would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone for their generosity.
